Fun at a Friend's House

Christmas is a time for parties and hanging out with friends. The only problem is I always eat too much and wish I hadn't later. I know I need to get in bed early tonight but that probably won't happen.
Just five more days until Christmas break. The children at school are so excited it's hard for them to focus. The kindergarten children are especially excited, and have been sharing with me some things they have written in letters to Santa. They have assured me Santa is real, and they think I probably should write my letter before it's too late. I'm going to do that right now.

Just Thinking

It's been a few months since I have published a blog. I actually forgot how to get to my blog and had to really think about it. Since writing this blog I am now writing for another site and have learned a lot from it. If you want to check it out it is suite101.com. One of my articles is about fanstory. Fanstory is a wonderful site that helps a writer to develop a network of other writers to learn from. Happy holidays to all.

We had a wonderful service at church today and the children's sermon was really cute. When it came time for the children's sermon the pastor sang the little song The B-I-B-L-E. One child said that was his song. So the pastor asked if he would like to sing it. The answer was, "Not yet." Everyone laughed because the response was so cute.
It reminds me that children have the most natural and innocent answers to life. We all should be more like that because there wouldn't be as many games played in our personal life and in the workplace.

I have just returned from a singing event in my little town that took place this morning. I actually was one of the judges, and it was so much fun. There were only four contestants but that was okay. The youngest contestant was four years old, and she sang a song about a little piggie doing the boogie. There was a duet by a husband and wife; and then there were also two teenagers that sang. Everyone got a prize today and that was cool.
The event took place on a friend's farm, and it was the first time that they had sponsored this contest. There will be another one in the fall at the pumpkin festival. Hopefully by then, there will be more contestants to join in the fun.
The setting was a barn and you could hear the animals all around. The MC did a wonderful job of getting everyone in a good mood with a few jokes to start. This helped the performers to relax. I think a fun time was had by all. My pay for a couple of hours of volunteering was a gallon of strawberries. Not a bad day's pay I would say.

I am a retired music teacher interested in writing for children, and I have a love for writing poetry, as well. The poem If Crayons Could Walk and Talk is an example of one of my poems and is also posted on fanstory. I'm working on my mom's memoirs; she will soon be ninety and was one of twenty one children. She is a true story teller and has many funny stories to tell.

If Crayons Could Walk and Talk

If crayons could walk and talk
I wonder what they would say or do.
Would they just stay in the box
Or would they come to play with you?

If crayons could change their color
I wonder what colors they'd chose.
Would red chose pink or dark green
would purple want to be blue?

I don't know if crayons are happy
with the color they were made to be.
But I love the joy and laughter
they bring through fun activity.

Each time that I open up my box
I see the crayons have not moved.
It's as if they've been asleep
since the last time they were used.

I may never have the answer
perhaps neither will you.
If crayons could walk and talk
I wonder what they would say or do.
